How to Sell Physical Merchandise with your Online Course

You don't have to just sell digital products with your course. You can also sell physical merchandise with your online course and that may be another source for revenue for you.

It's all about building trust. Once your audience trust you and become a fan of what you're teaching, then it's easier to sell physical products with your online course.

Instead of selling random physical products, I recommend selling products that are related to your course topic.

Here are example of physical merchandise that you can sell with your online course.

  • T-shirts
  • Stickers
  • Posters
  • iPhone Cases
  • Journals
  • Pop Sockets

Here is a Podcasting Journal offered by John Lee Dumas of 'Entrepreneurs on Fire' podcast.

Pat also has a 'Ask Pat' t-shirt which I believe is not for sale but is gifted to Ask Pat guests.

Nowadays there are so many platforms that will allow you to create your own design and sell it as custom merchandise to your audience. These vary depending on their pricing policy, so you should review these before you decide to go with one of the platforms.

Printful let you simply connect your store / website with them and you can then add your products and start selling.

There are several different product types that you can sell from Printful platform such as:

  • T-shirts
  • Stickers
  • Sweatpants & Joggers
  • Phone Cases
  • Jackets
  • Posters

Not all of these product types will be suitable for your online course so you can pick and choose what works best for you. In my opinion, T-shirts, Stickers, Phone Cases would be more suitable to go with an online course.

Also the profit calculator provided by Printful can help you decide which product you want to sell. Profit Calculator shows you what will Printful charge for the product and then you choose what price you want to sell it to see your profit.

If you sell T-shirt at 17.95, it will make you a profit of $10 after deducting $7.95 for Printful cost.

So if you sell 100 T-shirt, you could easily make $ 10 x 100 = $1000

You don't have to pre-print or keep any merchandise with you. Whenever an order comes through, Printful will print and send it to your customer and you will get your profit share.

Creating Mockups using Printful for your online course

Now once you've decided to go for a product type, you can start working on the design. Printful has nice mockup generator that you can use to create mockups to see how your final product would look like.

If you already have a designer or created a design yourself, you can simply upload it and it will show in the mockup. I've used Stencil a lot to create transparent design for the t-shirts that we have sold to our course students.

Other options are to 'Add Text' and 'Add Clipart' that are available with Mockup Generator.

Then you can finally submit your design and once it's approved you can start selling your merchandise to your online course students.

You can even create great looking mockup using Placeit.net. This is the tool that we have used to create mockups for t-shirts, ebooks to either use it on landing page or send in the emails.
